Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy (APIT)

Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy (APIT)

At Elevate Wellness, Kim can provide injections of vitamins to support your health as well as homeopathic remedies that can be used as a style of prolotherapy.  The homeopathic remedies provide a natural remedy to help promote healing of injuries to muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments, can help with various types of acute and chronic pain, inflammation, migraines and can help to treat stubborn trigger points just to name a few.  APIT using homeopathic remedies provides a natural alternative to cortisone injections.

WHY USE INJECTIONS?

There are 3 significant benefits of injections I would like to touch on.

1.    Bypassing First Pass Effect:  Many people take supplements orally, however, when we take supplements, medications, homeopathic remedies, and even our herbs orally, our liver kicks in to do its job of trying to metabolize and eliminate these substances from our bodies.  This process greatly reduces the amount of the supplement that will be available to us to be absorbed and used as it then gets eliminated from the body.  This process involving our liver is called the “first pass effect”.  The benefits of injecting vitamins and homeopathic remedies is that it allows us to bypass this process, so we have a larger amount of the supplement that is bioavailable, thus, we get further benefits from injecting the supplements.

2.    Use of acupuncture point functions: With acupuncture point injection therapy, we have the added benefit of injecting vitamins and homeopathic remedies into acupuncture points and trigger points that further enhance the therapeutic effect by using the functions of the acupuncture points along the chosen meridian.

3.    Directly treating injuries and pain sites locally: For specific injuries and pain, we can also inject homeopathic remedies to the local area that needs to be treated. Kim has found this to be extremely effective on injuries to joints that we are constantly using that can slow down healing - such as the shoulder, foot, ankle, and our wrists and hands.  APIT can be a great alternative to those wanting to avoid cortisone injections. This allows us to integrate the western and eastern approaches to healing as well as our health and wellbeing.

VITAMIN B 12

Vitamin B 12 deficiency is increasingly more common and these deficiencies can impact us in ways that we are unaware of.  As we age, we also have a harder time absorbing B12.  This important vitamin can benefit your mood, energy level, memory, heart, skin and hair, digestion, and more.  It is a vitamin that is commonly used to help those with adrenal fatigue, hormone imbalances, and it benefits our nervous and cardiovascular systems.

Who has a higher risk of Vitamin B12 deficiencies?

As Vitamin B12 is absorbed from an animal based diet, those that are vegetarian or vegan have an increased risk for B12 deficiency.  Furthermore, individuals that smoke or are alcoholic also have an increased risk due to the impact on their body that makes it more difficult to absorb B12.  People with anemia, digestive tract disorders such as gastritis, Celiac, Crohns, bacterial growth or parasites, and some people with immune system disorders, such as Graves or lupus are also at risk of developing deficiencies of B12.

How B12 benefits us in so many ways?

  • Maintains energy levels as its needed to convert carbohydrates into glucose so the body can use it for energy

  • Prevent memory loss & decreases risk factors for neurodegenerative disease as it is necessary for nerve health & neurotransmitter signaling

  • Improve mood & functioning of nervous system: its crucial for dealing with stress, regulating your mood, and overall neurological functioning

  • Heart Health: B12 reduces homocysteine levels (an amino acid)  which is a risk factor for heart disease

  • Healthy skin & hair: due to its role in cell production so it makes hair & nails stronger, it reduces redness, dryness, inflammation, and acne

  • Aids in digestion as it helps to decrease/eliminate harmful bacteria and increase the beneficial bacteria.  B12 also supports our metabolism.

  • Pregnancy: as it is needed to create DNA and is an important nutrient for the development of your baby.  B12 plays a role with folate, which can contribute to lowering the risk of birth defects.

  • Red Blood Cell Production is another important function of B12, which is why it helps to prevent some types of anemia

What are the causes of vitamin D deficiencies?

  • Darker skin pigment
